Coifs

This is the head gear section. Coifs are the chainmail equivalent to helmets. The word is derived from the french word 'coiffure' which, if you speak french, means hair cut or hair style. Here are some pictures of my coifs and mantles as well.

The first coif you see is the 'classic' coif. It is simply a 'cap' with a back and side pieces. All coifs must be custom made to fit the head of the person who is going to wear the piece. The cap has to be the right size or the whole item will be useless. The second coif and last coif you see are coif/mantle otherwise know as a 'closed throat'. They are essentially coifs attached to a mantle and the throat is then knitted shut. This is difficult if you do not have the person there when you make it, so it requires precise mesurements. The third coif is a 4th century Iraq coif. It covers the face and has eye holes to allow better vision, these are extremely hard to make without the individual there but it can be done, but not easily, therefore they vary in price and tend to be very expensive. The coifs are relatively inexpensive but provide authenticity to that incomplete suit of armour. If you want anything I do not advertise, feel free to ask me about it and I'll see if I can make it for you.
